ANC slams premier’s failure to meet deadline

Ngxanga pointed out the oneweek grace period for the premier to reverse her “controversial” reshuffle had passed.

“It is an undisputed truth that no consultation took place with the ANC or the alliance partners before the cabinet was reshuffled. The premier seems unable or unwilling to correct her mistake. The ANC takes strong exception about the casual way that the premier is handling an issue which is dividing and brings a lot of pain to the ANC and society.”

He added that the ANC was now considering its next course of action.

“The ANC has been patient about the premier’s recalcitrance but this cannot go on forever. It is the ANC that contested the elections and not the premier. Therefore the ANC will remain the strategic centre of power. The ANC is contemplating its options and will inform all its structures as soon as a decision is taken on the matter. The premier’s actions smack of ill-discipline which will not be tolerated in the movement.”

Spokesperson for the Premier’s Office, Bronwyn Thomas-Abrahams, indicated that Lucas had made an undertaking to consult and thereafter revert back to the officials of the ANC following the request made to her regarding the reversal of her decision.

“Up until such a meeting has taken place, the premier will not comment publicly on the matter. It is the kind request of the premier that these matters are left to be dealt with internally by the relevant stakeholders before she comments on them,” said Thomas-Abrahams.
