Show your support, lace up for Tekkie Tax Day
THE PROVINCIAL Department of Economic Development and Tourism will be joining hands with Yonder, Boitumelo, Retlameng, Ivy Cross, Jannie Brink and the Kimberley Training Centre this morning to celebrate Tekkie Tax Day.
Members of the public have been invited to participate in the programme and spend the morning and join in the activities which will take place at Yonder from 9am to midday.
Thousands of people partici- pate nationally in the initiative by wearing purchased stickers and a pair of funky shoelaces in their footwear.
The campaign was formed in 2013 when a few of South Africa’s biggest and most accountable welfare organisations joined forces.
There are 12 national beneficiaries of the campaign and they represent more than 1 000 nonprofit organisations.
Those participating in the campaign purchase a sticker to represent their chosen cause. There are five causes, namely Animals, Bring Hope, Children, Disability and Education.
Those who wish can also pair it with a pair of funky Tekkie Tag shoelaces.
Tekkie Tax has raised more than R22 million since its inception.
Annelise de Jager, founder of the project, said the difference it has made on ground level in the country is very encouraging.
“Underneath all the foolishness and silly shoelaces lies a very serious matter,” she said.
Tekkie Tax stickers at R10 and Tekkie Tag shoelaces at R35 are available from all Clicks, Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores.
