Cops hunt for farm robbers

- MURRAY SWART STAFF REPORTER

THE SEARCH continues for several suspects involved in an armed robbery that occurred on a farm roughly 10km outside Kimberley on the N12.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Dimakatso Mooi, no arrests have been made after five men entered Eberon farm shortly after 7am on Thursday morning and found the owner, his daughter and her grandmother on the premises.

The suspects tied up the three family members and demanded to know where they kept their firearms and other valuables, before fleeing the scene in the farmer’s wife’s Mercedes-Benz.

The vehicle was later spotted abandoned along the N12 by a police helicopter that had been deployed to track a Toyota Land Cruiser that was stolen from Mokala National Park the night before.

“According to information received, the suspects demanded the keys to the safe at gunpoint,” said Mooi. “They tied the victims with cable ties before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, an unconfirmed number of firearms, found in the safe, cellphones and a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

“The vehicle was found abandoned a few kilometres away from the scene.

“The police are on the lookout for the five males. Anyone with information is requested to contact Captain Doggie Magugu on 082 469 0578 or 086 495 4646. Police investigations continue.”
