GALESHEWE The Galeshewe police station and station community policing forum will host a youth soccer tournament at Molehe Mampe Place of Safety today, starting at 11am.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majang Skalkie, said that the purpose of the event, which was being held in partnership with government stakeholders and the municipality, was to foster good relations with the youth and to educate them about crime.
NATIONAL The Parkweg police in Bloemfontein have urged the public to be vigilant of criminals targeting individuals looking for love online.
Spokesperson Captain Chaka Marope said several cases of this nature and charges of extortion were being investigated.
“Criminals are turning to clever ruses and use social media platforms to solicit money from victims. This trend is alarming.
“Typically, the modus operandi is that they target people (using) on-line dating. They established a chatting platform and relationship with victims and lure them into exchanging nude pictures.”
The criminals then demand cash from the victims, failing which they are threatened with their nude pictures being circulated on social media.
