Shontz shines at Bloemfonte­in Rhythmic Gymnastics meet

KIMBERLEY’S Shontz Rhythmic Gymnastic club swept the boards at the Helen Botha club competitio­ns which took place in Bloemfonte­in last week.

The club, coached by former SA rhythmic gymnastics champion Shante-Lee Jones scooped the Best Under-11 and Under-13 category awards, as well as Best Level Gymnast.

This translated to two gold medals, two silver medals a bronze as well as the Top Level 4 award. Jones said the club was currently preparing to take part in the upcoming Northern Cape qualifying rounds which set the stage for the national competitio­ns which is scheduled for September 30.

The coach claims the honour of being the first to initiate a rhythmic gymnastics club in the Province. She is herself the proud holder of several gymnastics medals which she won when she was tutored by Russian-Ukrainian export Angela Lepecha.

Jones hosts free rhythmic gymnastic classes for youngsters at the Diamantvel­d Primary school in Kimberley North every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Classes start at 1.30pm and run till 5pm.
