Limited space in four-day Barney as the bookings open tomorrow

- DAVE WILSON GOLF CORRESPONDENT

TOMORROW, Tuesday July 4, might well be a significant day in the USA, but closer to home it signals the Opening of Bookings for the 2017 Barney Barnato.

Recalibrated to a four-day event the opportunity to enter the tournament is, therefore, rather more limited. The entry form will be available on the website kimberleygolfclub.co.za. Alternatively you could e-mail kgcadmin@wol.co.za, or phone 053 8410127 for assistance.

Meanwhile, Lenong claimed a full 16 points in their match against C-PAC in a postponed betterball matchplay event played out yesterday morning. Not completely outdone C-PAC did salvage two bonus points.

Denver van Heerden returned a net 69 on Saturday to claim the July monthly Medal. Gavin Schafer (70) and Leon van Wyk (72) were first and second in the A division, while Johnny Cloete (71) and Kariem Anderson (71) were first and second in the B division.

Henk Visser returned the best gross, a 75.

In the Ladies Section Medal, played concurrently, Susan

Ferreira was first on a very creditable net 67. The runner-up was Susan Alexander. Venetia Salo returned the best individual stableford score.

A count-out deemed Wade King first and Donald Whitebooi second in the Friday Sun Flamingo Niner. Both players posted 20 points. Deuce Leburu was third on 17. Neville Alexander and Andries Kori were fourth and fifth, each on 16.

Machiel Cronjé posted the top Thursday KWV Powerplay Niner result, 23 points. A count-out on 22 placed Herbie Woodbridge first and Dave Benade second. All three players recorded a Big Six.

Outside of the prizewinners

Ant Crozier, Gerhard Roux and Luchmen Poonawassy also each recorded a Big Six.

Siewert Wiid, Dries du Plessis, Gavin van Zyl and Kevin Collings returned 87 points to take the Wednesday Sundowner Lodge fourball alliance. Willie Delport, Johan Herselman and Conrad van Bosch were the runners-up, just one point behind.
