What does take my fancy though about this latter one is the innovation it has added to the club mix. They have gone across our north-western border and roped in the willing services of Township Rollers FC. That to me is a good thing indeed.

You see the average Mzansi stroller has very little knowledge that the beautiful game has some excellent exponents just across our borders which pack the local stadia week in and week out.

We are much more familiar with overseas clubs and their stars. Mention Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, AS Roma and many others and you will likely get the name of the founding coach, the club’s top football star and that kind of trivia rolling off the tongue.

But then nobody recalls any two names from say Mbabane Flying Locust FC, or Rhino Tails from up north and Crocodile Spit from the neighbours here. So now through football we get some education at the price of a game’s ticket or cursory, non-vested television viewing on a droll weekend.

So thanks to the league’s off-season, now we know Township Rollers are from Botswana’s capital Gaborone. Rollers are the top dogs over there having won the league hands down by beating Jwaneng Galaxy 1-0 to gain 67 points for the league honours. Which is what brought them over here in the first place.
