NC man jailed for murdering girlfriend

A SPRINGBOK man has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonme­nt for murdering his girlfriend by stabbing her and slitting her throat.

The Springbok Regional Court sentenced Frederick Paulus, 28, to 18 years direct imprisonme­nt for murdering his 29-year-old girlfriend.

On October 4 2015 Paulus took his girlfriend for a walk on one of the mountains in Vaalwater Besig in Springbok. While there an argument broke out between the two and Paulus stabbed his girlfriend and partly slit her throat. He left her body there.

According to police spokespers­on, Lieutenant-Colonel Dimakatso Mooi, the decomposed body was found by police four days later, after the victim had been reported missing by her family.

Paulus was arrested and has been in custody since the incident.

He was found guilty of murder and on Friday sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonme­nt.

Unfit

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The sentencing was welcomed by the family of the deceased and the SAPS.

The Cluster Commander of Namaqua, Brigadier Francis Hender, lauded the investigat­ing officer, Warrant Officer Jonas, for his “dedication and thorough investigat­ion that ensured that justice prevailed”.
