Golfers enjoy swinging start to Spring at KGC

IN SATURDAY’S IPS Pierre de Klerk made only his fourth appearance for 2017. But, he made it count in no uncertain way – a nine under net 63 for 45 individual points and a runaway win.

Eddie Barkhuizen was the runner-up on 41 points. A fourway count-out on 40 points placed Machiel Cronjé third, Wade King fourth with Mietie Aysen the final prizewinne­r.

Saturday also saw the final round of the annual CC Challenge, the first two rounds being completed on Friday.

This was the fifth anniversar­y of this Ryder Cup style format over three rounds between the Kimberley Team and their Joburg counterpar­ts. Somewhat by tradition it has been the final round singles matches that have given the Kimberley Team the deciding edge.

Concurrent­ly Machiel Cronjé and Harry Welham posted 43 betterball points to win the September Senior outing.

Deon Nel and Wedge Crozier were the runners-up on 41 points. Jasper Kroep and Daan Fourie were third, one point behind.

A four-way count on 20 points was required in Friday’s Sun Flamingo Niner.

Shaun Davies was first, Ivan Coetzee second, LJ Thomane third and Gavin Oliver fourth. Simon Moroke was fifth on 18 points.

Neville Alexander unleashed an eight-pointer to take the Thursday KWV Powerplay Niner on 24 points.

Braam Botes, complement­s of a big six, was the runner-up on 23 points. OJ Maimane, who also posted a big six, was third on 22 points.

Machiel Cronjé Mali Manana, Deuce Leburu, Ian Kidson and Flexx Rantoa each also reported a big six on the day.

Gavin Schafer returned 38 individual stableford points to win the Leon’s House of Liquor IPS on Wednesday.

Siewert Wiid was second on 37 points with Barend Burger third on 36 points.

The coming week

Tomorrow is special rates day. On Wednesday, it is the Darsha Insurance Brokers IPS.

On Thursday, it is the KWV Powerplay Niner, with Friday sees the Club host the Sun Flamingo Niner and the Snowball Draw, the value R3 300.

On Saturday, there will be the Club Competitio­n, and finally on Sunday, it is the monthly OBC

Chicken Golf Day.
