Lubbe sets course on fire with impressive round at fund-raiser

ON SATURDAY, the William Pescod School’s 130 Anniversar­y Golf Day, saw Christo Swanepoel return 42 points to pip the field by a shot. Barend Burger was the runner-up, just one point behind on 41. Nico Ross and Garth Lee were third and fourth, each on 39 points. Shane Arthur, Buck Venter and Donald Whitebooi were the final prize winners, all on 38 points.

On Friday afternoon Jaco Lubbe played a round and-a-half, 48 individual stableford points, to win the NC Cricket Golf Fund-raiser held at the KGC. Allan Meyers, the runner-up, was almost as impressive, he returned 45 points. Louis Swiegers was third on 42. Neil Langley, who collected two nearest the pins, was fourth on 41. Two players followed on 40 points: Rudi Visagie and Francois Schwartz. In all the prizes paid down to 10th position.

Then on Thursday it was the 2017, GBADS (Ground Based Air Defence System) Classic Golf Day.

This annual event, in its 18th year, attracted 27 teams made up of 108 players from around the country. At stake was the GBADS Classic Trophy and the Starstreak Cup, the format Ambrose American Scramble. Ultimately team Reutech Solutions 2 was the winner of both.

Willie Delport posted 41 points to claim the Leon’s House of Liquor IPS on Wednesday. A count-out on 39 points deemed Mike Vigne second and Stan de Beer third.

Our look ahead

This week, it is the Sundowner Lodge Competitio­n tomorrow, with Thursday reserved for the KWV Niner. On Friday Kimberley Boys High hold their annual golf fundraiser. This will be followed by the Sun Flamingo Niner and the snowball draw valued at R3 350.

On Saturday, it is round three of the Winter Meat Challenge.
