Thomane sizzles in KGC Meat Challenge

ON SATURDAY it was the third and final round of the 2017 Winter Meat Challenge at the Kimberley Golf Club. The results of the day included a scintillat­ing 68 gross (35, 33) by LJ Thomane for 45 individual stableford points and a comfortabl­e first place.

Eddie Barkhuizen was the runner-up on 41 points. Third and fourth places went to Kevin Wakeford and Wade King, each on 39 points.

The results of the overall threeround challenge had Denver van Heerden (109) first, Kevin Wakeford (107) second and Wade King (103) third.

On Friday afternoon, meanwhile, Tom Whitten and Luchmen Poonawassy returned 43 betterball points to win the Boys High School Golf fund-raiser.

Andries Kori and Flexx Rantoa were the runners-up on 42 points. Three better balls followed on 41 points.

The count-out placed OJ Maimane and Deuce Leburu third, Allan Meyer and Ricardo Joseph fourth and Mali Manana and Marumo Setlare fifth.

In all the prizes paid down to eighth place.

Flexx Rantoa delivered the top score in the Friday Sun Flamingo Niner – 21 points. Andries Kori, Gavin Oliver and Neville Alexander each returned 18 points. A multi count-out on 17 points saw Ivan Coetzee placed fifth.

In the Thursday KWV Niner Nico Ross led the way and the day with a powerplay eight-pointer at the 15th.

A count-out on 24 points placed him first on the day. Luchmen Poonawassy, meanwhile – on a similar score, with a big six at the 14th – was second.

Dave Wilson, who recorded a big six at the fourth, was third on 23 points.

Outside of the prizewinne­rs Dave Benade and Cedric van der Ross also each reported a big six.

Wikus Kok, Kat Swanepoel, Reuben Visagie and Willem Kruger returned 83 points to win the Sundowner Lodge sponsored four ball alliance on Wednesday.

Willie Delport, the pivot, Keith Brown and Johan Herselman were the runners-up, just one point behind.

The Coming Week

On Wednesday this week it is the Darsha Insurance Brokers IPS, followed on Thursday by the KWV Niner.

On Friday it is NG Kerk Newton Golf Fund-raiser, and on Saturday it is the CBC St. Patrick’s Golf Day.
