Sol launches revamped website
THE SOL Plaatje Municipality yesterday launched its “new-look”, updated website, which aims to serve as an “accessing point between the community of Kimberley and the municipality”.
The upgraded municipal website, www.solplaatje.org.za, was yesterday officially launched at the Galeshewe Library by councillor Patrick Meleng.
Meleng said that the aim of the site was to keep all members of the community informed about developments at the municipality, while also serving as a tool to educate communities and to serve as a platform for them to raise issues.
“We live in a technologically-driven community where information technology is important in driving the growth and development of institutions. I wish to declare our commitment to a new information era and collaboration with our communities,” Meleng said.
“It is up to all of us – communities, business, education institutions and other stakeholders – to turn this website into a functional tool for improved service delivery, communication and the building of a new partnership.
“The Sol Plaatje Municipality, like all other similar institutions, is highly dependent on its ability to forge a working relationship with its citizens and this website affords us to present to you our corporate image.”
The spokesperson for the Sol Plaatje executive mayor, Gregory Seleke, added that the website would be faster and more efficient than before, with users being able to view the contact details of councillors, as well as council committee agendas and minutes.
“This site aims to bring the municipality closer to the people,” Seleke concluded.
After the launch, officials from the municipality instructed primary school pupils from the Galeshewe Young Reader Club on how to navigate the new website.
A visit to the site did, however, reveal a number of glitches in the wording and spacing of the copy posted on some of the pages.
