Three die in crash

- MURRAY SWART STAFF REPORTER

THREE people, including a baby, were killed and four others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the N8, between Petrusburg and Bloemfontein, on Sunday evening.

At about 8pm on Sunday evening paramedics from different services attended to a call-out, where the Jaws of Life were required to free some of the victims who were trapped in their vehicle.

“Two adults and a child in a Jetta were declared dead on the scene by emergency services,” said ER24 spokesperson, Annine Siddall, in a statement yesterday.

“A boy, believed to be 15 years old, sustained serious injuries and he was transported to Pelonomi Trauma Hospital for further medical care.

“One male and a child, who sustained moderate injuries, and an elderly woman, who sustained minor injuries, were also taken to a nearby hospital to receive further medical care.

“Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedics attended to a male patient who had sustained serious injuries and analgesic medication was administered to manage his pain,”

Netcare 911’s Nick Dollman said.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are not yet known, but local authorities were on scene. Police had not responded to media enquiries at the time of going to press.

The accident occurred just a matter of hours after an earlier fatal accident on the N8 when a head-on collision, between a Mazda 323 and a VW Polo, left one person dead and six others injured.
