MEC visits spring camps
AS THE 2017 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations draw nearer for thousands of Grade 12 pupils across the Northern Cape, the MEC for Education, Martha Bartlett, has launched a number of spring school camps as part of the final push for this year’s matrics.
The MEC, accompanied by Scandal actor Kagiso “Mangi” Modupe and motivational speaker Felix Malapane, yesterday visited several schools in an effort to encourage matrics to take advantage of their opportunities and to ensure that they are as prepared as possible when the exams commence in a few weeks time.
The matric examinations start on Monday, October 24, with foreign languages papers over two days.
The English paper will be written on Wednesday, October 26.
There are 636 814 registered fulltime and 161 475 part-time candidates for the 2017 NSC exams, 37 000 less than 2016 in terms of full-time enrolment.
“It is time to put into practice what you have learnt throughout the year for a better future,” Bartlett told matric pupils at Diamantveld High School yesterday.
“It is a time to remain focused and create sufficient time to concentrate on your study materials. Remember, that your results will be a reflection of our work as a department to ensure that every learner succeeds.”
The MEC further urged pupils to get into a healthy routine and an environment that is conducive to preparing for their final exams.
“Make sure you drink enough water and eat healthy food,” she emphasised. “Get sufficient sleep every night and exercise daily.
“You can succeed despite difficult circumstances, poor backgrounds and humble beginnings.
“Through sheer hard work, commitment and determination nothing can prevent you from achieving your full potential and your dreams.”
