By George, KGC golfers seem to be good travellers

AT THE WEEKEND the NCGU Provincial team left for the 2017

Mid Am IPT at Oubaai Golf Club near George in the Western Cape. The team includes two KGC members – Andries Kori (the captain) and Deon Kruis.

Last week the NCGU Junior Provincial Team that included two KGC Members, Joshua Edwards and Darian Fortune, returned from the annual mini IPT at Kingswood Golf Estate, also in the vicinity of George.

They finished a very creditable third overall, their best result since their inaugural invitation.

This weekend also sees Helena Janse, Mikah Poonawassy and Johan Herselman leave for Sun City to participat­e in the 2017 Sanlam Cancer Challenge Finals over two rounds.

Competitiv­e scores meanwhile marked the results of the October monthly medal on Saturday. This included two net 65s and a net 66. Derek Dobson took the count-out on 65 to claim the best net overall. Flexx Rantoa, who lost the countout, won best net A division. Mietie Aysen was the runner-up in the A division on 68 in a multiway countout. Luchmen Poonawassy won best net B division on 66. Fareeez Alexander was the runner-up on 68. Three players returned a level par gross 72; Buck Venter, Keith Brown and Flexx Rantoa, Buck Venter the winner in the count-out.

Bernie Turton enjoyed a runaway win in Friday’s Sun Flamingo Niner, his score 23 points. Luchmen Poonawassy was the runner-up on 21 points. No less than six players followed on 20 points. The count-out deemed Jaco Janse third, Ramon Barlow fourth and Kevin Antill the final prizewinne­r.

Darian Fortune enjoyed a big six at the 16th and the better count-out to win the KWV Powerplay Niner on 23 points. On a similar score Ivan Coetzee was the runner-up after a powerplay big six at the 13th. Luchmen Poonawassy was third on 20 points in a count-out. Wedge Crozier, Nico Ross and Dave Benade each also recorded a big six.

Dries du Plessis (38 points), Gavin van Zyl (36 points), Mike Doherty (35 points) and John Lankester (34 points) were the top four players in the Wednesday Darsha Insurance Brokers sponsored IPS tournament.

THE COMING WEEK

Looking ahead, the Konica Minolta Business League October outing takes place this Wednesday. The KWV Powerplay Niner is on Thursday. The Sun Flamingo Niner is on Friday, as is the snowball draw, which, thanks to the generousab­sence of Wayne Olivier last Friday will stand at R3 450 this Friday.

On Saturday the competitio­n is sponsored by Reach for a Dream. It is also the Senior outing in which the not-so-old play the not-so-young. On Sunday it is the Sealing Solutions League.
