Group winners are ready for final push in Nedbank Cup eliminator­s

FOUR group winners have emerged from the SAB League Frances Baard and will now advance to the regional semi-finals and finals of the annual Nedbank Cup competitio­n for amateur and profession­al sides.

Mataleng-based FC Barcelona successful­ly saw off any pretenders to the throne in Group A a week ago in Mataleng, Barkly West. Barcelona took down Delportsho­op United 3-1 in their first game, then drew 2-2 with Chicken Inn in regular time, and winning 3-2 on penalties.

In Group B The Student’s FC triumphed over their challenger­s in games that took place in Hartswater last weekend. The Students first dealt with Windsorton Young Stars via a 3-1 penalty decision. Bonita Sundowns, Phokwane Stars and Young Stars all fell by the wayside in this group.

Tswelopele FC, meanwhile, emerged victorious in Group C and took the mantle via a 2-1 win over Juventus FC and a 5-1 drubbing of eventual group finalist Kwa-Nobantu Celtics in Galeshewe on Saturday.

In Group D Ipopeng Real Madrid took the honours by walloping Pes Porto 3-0 in the opening game, then dispensed with Dalton Brothers 1-0 in their second game.

The Safa regional administra­tors will soon announce the date and venues for these group winners’ semi-finals and final matches.
