Alvin ignores another resignation warning
THE MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta), Alvin Botes, has ignored another stern warning from the ANC to hand in his resignation letter by 10am yesterday.
Reshuffle
This has apparently put a spanner in the works of the planned provincial cabinet reshuffle that should have been concluded three weeks ago.
A swearing in ceremony has been scheduled to take place on Monday for former Member of Parliament Patrick Mabilo to be sworn in as a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) to replace Botes. However, this cannot go ahead until Botes tenders his resignation.
The ANC had originally given Botes a deadline of October 5 to comply, so that he could be redeployed to Parliament.
In the letter, dated October 18, that was addressed to him by ANC provincial secretary Deshi Ngxanga, Botes was advised that he had on three occasions failed to follow instructions to relinquish his position as an MPL.
Department of Coghsta spokesperson Xhanti Teki indicated that Botes was “still in consultation with the ANC”. “Further to that no public comment.”
ANC provincial spokesperson Naledi Gaosekwe stated that the ANC had met with Botes yesterday in an attempt to resolve the matter internally.
“Once we have arrived at a decision we will communicate it.”
