City to host ‘production with a cause’
KIMBERLEY Combined Artists will be presenting a “production with a cause” at the Mayibuye Arts Centre in Kimberley tomorrow.
The production, which is titled “We Are One”, aims to use the performing arts to inspire youths and help in the fight against underage drinking, drug abuse and teenage pregnancies.
The initiative was founded by Monwabisi Bisi Ka Jobela (pictured), who has been very active in positive community development programmes.
Jobela will be taking part in the new season of Future Leaders on SABC 1, which is presented by Sibusiso Leope, also known as Dj Sbu.
Future Leaders is a series which documents teenagers becoming role-models for positive change within their communities and amongst their peers. It will air on October 31 at 9pm.
As the head mentor in the SABC 1 series, Dj Sbu handpicked Zastronbased Karabo Mohapi for Jobela to mentor.
Mohapi chose performing arts as a tool to help local youths to focus on the upliftment of their community and to fight the scourge of drug abuse, underage drinking, teenage pregnancies and other youth-related social ills.
Mohapi hopes to learn from Jobela, who drew inspiration from the SABC show and will tomorrow launch the “production with a cause”, which will be directed by local librettist Mkhululi Mabija and composer Neo Lemphote, in Kimberley tomorrow.
“My aim is to inspire the community and to encourage the youth to participate in positive community development programmes such as performing arts” said Jobela. The production will be held at the Mayibuye Arts Centre tomorrow at 3pm and it is free of charge.
