Residents in N Cape town left high and dry

- SANDI KWON HOO CHIEF REPORTER

A LETTER of grievance that was sent to the Dikgatlong municipal manager’s office this week, has again gone unanswered following complaints of poor service delivery relating to numerous water interruptions over the past six months.

Residents from the Barkly West, Mataleng and De Beershoogte communities indicated that no warning was issued about any planned maintenance or cleaning work and that the water supply was simply cut.

“The various excuses we receive when complaining clearly shows there is not even communication between your own workers and departments, and sometimes we are outright lied to about the real problems at hand,” the letter addressed to the municipal manager stated.

The letter also stated that the municipal dam is left to run dry when there is a burst pipe, which results in long periods of no water.

“Currently areas in town, such as Karee Street, Tinus du Plessis and DS Schoeman Street, constantly suffer as a result from low water pressure, while Barkly West, Mataleng and De Beershoogte have been without water for several days.”

There are also impending electricity cuts that will be implemented at the municipality as from January next year due to an outstanding account of R55 million that is owed by the municipality to Eskom.

No response was received from the municipality.
