IN THE NEWS Water cut to parts of city
THE WATER supply to Galeshewe and Roodepan was interrupted yesterday due to a shutdown while repairs were conducted on one of the main pipelines between Riverton and Kimberley.
Spokesperson for Sol Plaatje Municipality, Sello Matsie, said that the 965 millimetre pipeline from the Riverton purification plant was immediately stopped yesterday after a major leakage was reported.
“Areas in and around Roodepan and Galeshewe that receive direct supply will experience a drop in water pressure immediately. The upper lying areas of the city (CBD, El Toro Park, New Park, Herlear, Carrington, Cassandra, Beaconsfield etc) were not negatively affected as the current levels at Newton Reservoir are adequate to continue supply.”
Matsie said that he would update the community on the progress on the work on the pipeline, while water would continue to be pumped from the 600 millimetre pipe into the Newton Reservoir.
“We request the community to commence using water sparingly and will provide regular updates on the situation. We regret the inconvenience.”
Matsie advised that the affected areas would experience a drop in the water pressure until work had been completed.
“Residents will not even realise that there is a problem, apart from a decrease in water pressure.
“Our engineers and water and sanitation staff will remain on site until the work is completed and are prepared to work through the night.”
