Three killed on NC roads

Pictures: Soraya Crowie THREE people were killed in two separate accidents that took place on the Barkly West and Griekwasta­d roads over the weekend.

Two people were killed in a horrific accident at about 3am yesterday morning, when the driver of a blue Ford Fiesta, which was travelling from Kimberley in the direction of Griekwasta­d, collided with a white Toyota Corolla that was travelling in the opposite direction.

A woman was apparently flung out of the Ford Fiesta and onto the road, where she was driven over by an oncoming vehicle.

It appeared that the Ford Fiesta rolled and several items of clothing were strewn along the side of the road. The vehicle suffered extensive damage in the crash.

The Jaws of Life was used to free the body of the driver from the Ford Fiesta, while two other passengers were transporte­d to hospital for medical treatment.

Police spokespers­on, Captain Sergio Kock, said that the Kimberley police were investigat­ing a case of culpable homicide.

“It is alleged that the driver of the blue Ford Fiesta was en route to Griekwasta­d when he lost control of the vehicle and it collided into an oncoming Toyota Corolla. Both the driver and one of his three female passengers died on the scene. The male driver of the Toyota and his eight-year-old son sustained minor injuries. The investigat­ion continues,” said Kock.

In another accident, a 51-yearold man was killed when the Mazda3 that he was driving rolled several times before coming to a standstill in the veld near Platfontei­n on the Barkly West road on Saturday at about 1.30pm.

It appeared as if the vehicle was travelling from Kimberley in the direction of Barkly West.

One passenger was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Kock said that the Kimberley police were investigat­ing a case of culpable homicide after an accident occurred on the R31/Barkly West road.

“It is alleged that the driver of the Mazda3 lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll several times.”

Kock said that both the driver and the male passenger who was travelling with him were flung out of the vehicle.

“The 51-year-old male driver died on the scene and the male passenger was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

“The investigat­ion continues.”
