A case of burning rubber against an iron will at KGC

- DAVE WILSON GOLF CORRESPONDENT

TEN TENSE singles matches were played out Sunday morning in the final round of the Club 16 Ryder Cup Challenge. However, the Ysters were unable make the required comeback after trailing two-and-ahalf to seven-and-a-half at the end of the Betterball and Pinehurst matches on Saturday. 2017 marks the year that the TN finally prevailed.

The shot of the three-round challenge belonged to Trevor de Reuck, a no partner required seven iron into the hole for an ace at the par three 14th on Saturday.

A red hot Flexx Rantoa carded a gross 73 for a net 64 and a runaway victory in the Saturday Monthly Medal. The round included a blistering three under par 33 on the closing nine.

So hot was he that it was suggested that he wore his hat to protect the sun.

Henk Visser and Burger Heckroodt were first and second in the A division, each on net 69. John Lankester, on the same score, was first in the B division. Susan Alexander was second in a count-out on net 72.

In the Seniors Christmas outing, a fourball alliance with two scores to count, it was John Lankester, Jasper Kroep, Wedge Crozier and visitor John Allers who returned the top score.

A storm-disrupted Friday Sun Flamingo Niner had just over half the field complete their round. The net results were Susan Alexander first (22), Tsepho Molusi second

(21), LJ Thomane third (20) and Jaco Janse fourth (19).

The final prize went to Mali Manana, who despite being unable to complete his round, returned 18 points.

Thursday marked the first occasion in the Powerplay Niner history that not one competitor was able to report a powerplay Big Six. Reagan Woodbridge was first on 21 points, OJ Maimane was second on 19 points and Nico Ross was third on 18 points.

Pivot player Henk Visser carded a four under par gross 68 in the John Dory’s Wednesday betterball. He, together with John O’Connell, returned 49 points for first place. And, he, together with Gavin van Zyl, returned 46 points for second place. Third place went to Barend Burger and Barries van Zyl on 45 points.
