Jacobs seals Open win at MMGC
NICO Jacobs carded a one under-par 215 for the threeround MMGC Open, an
NCGU provincial strokeplay championship. Basil Nortjé was second on 220 with Piet Marais third on 221.
On Saturday Stephan Le
Roux returned a 35 on the back nine for a gross 75 to post +6 for a clear win in the KGC Bonus Bogey Competition. Almost as impressive runner-up Helena Janse opened with a 37 on the first nine to finally post + 4. Jaco Janse was third on +3. Several players returned +2.
Ultimately the count-out deemed Quinten Schaefer fourth and Conrad Fortune fifth. Meanwhile, this week no hat was required by last Saturday’s champion, Flexx Rantoa, for there is also a dark side to the sun.
Deuce Leburu, on 22 points, took the rain-delayed Sun Flamingo Niner on Friday by a point. Helena Janse was the runner-up on 21 points. Jaco Janse, Andries Kori and Fareez Alexander were third to fifth respectively all on 20 points.
Spurred by two powerplay options on offer and the 5-litre Roodeberg draw immediately after, Thursday’s KWV Powerplay niner produced a record 22 Big Sixes plus a Great Eight. As such the scores were somewhat higher than the standard Thursday.
A count-out on 28 points placed Dave Wilson first and
Ivan Coetzee second. Luchmen Poonawassy was third, just a single shot behind. The final prize went to Andries Kori on 25 points.
The bumper Wednesday’s Darsha Insurance Brokers IPS had two players return 39 points and a further four players return 38 points. Dries du Plessis and Shane Arthur were first and second. Henk Visser, Christo Swanepoel, Christo Botma and Wikus Kok were third to sixth. In all the prizes paid down to 12th spot.
THE COMING WEEK Tomorrow the KGC will host an afternoon competition, followed on Thursday by a KWV Niner. On Friday it is the School Shoes Tower Golf Day. While Saturday sees the Club offer a fourball alliance, two scores to count.
Please note, to be wholly competitive a three-ball will need to pay for a nominated pivot’s added competition fee.
