NCC need to up their game against dangerous WP

- DAVE ALEXANDER SPORTS REPORTER

NORTHERN Cape Cricket will want to redeem themselves from the heavy nine wicket defeat that they endured last time out here at the Diamond Oval when Northerns hammered them in the Sunfoil Three-Day match just before they took their festive season break.

There was also no way for the hosts to redeem themselves in the CSA One-Day Challenge match on the Sunday due to heavy rain causing the match being abandoned without a ball being bowled.

This time around NCC who find themselves at mid-table of the Sunfoil Three Day Cup log, host Western Province, who are second from the bottom.

The Three-dayer starts at a scorching Diamond Oval today and runs until Saturday, thereafter the teams face off in the CSA One Day Challenge on Sunday.

NCC coach Loots Bosman is obviously disappointed with how things have gone thus far in the competition and will want to see a greater all out effort from his charges this time around. Once again the coach emphasised the team applying themselves to achieving the right mix of top-order excellence and middle-order power in the batting, whilst bowling depth, reserve strength and excellent fielding skills cannot be overemphasised.

In one of their earlier outings NCC absolutely demolished Border in the three-day competition when they won by an innings and 34 runs.

Hopefully the team can go back to their superb form and discipline that they displayed in that match and do a repeat against Province; anything less will fail to make the disenchanted local supporters happy again.
