Trade union elects new office bearers

THE HEALTH and Other Service Personnel Trade Union of SA (Hospersa) in the Northern Cape elected new provincial office bearers at its provincial congress held in Kimberley last week.

The union also adopted key resolution­s to tackle during the next five years in its efforts of fighting for improved working conditions for its members.

The newly-elected office bearers will remain in office for a period of five years. The following portfolios were filled: Paul Gras (Provincial Chairperso­n), Heinrich Koopman (Provincial Vice-Chairperso­n – Structures and Recruitmen­t), Dennis Segano (Provincial Vice-Chairperso­n – HIV/Aids and Gender), Hendriena Coetzee (Provincial Vice-Chairperso­n – Education and Training) and Wainne Naidoo (Provincial Treasurer).

Aside from the elections, key resolution­s were adopted by the delegates, which were made up of more than 50 shop stewards representi­ng members from various public health and social developmen­t institutio­ns in the Northern Cape.

“We congratula­te the new leaders elected during the provincial congress,” Andre Harme, Hospersa Northern Cape provincial secretary, said.

“The new leaders will look to take aim at improving the working conditions of our members as well as building a strong worker-led trade union in the Province.”
