NC coaches graduate from Safa SAB instructors course
FOUR aspiring football coaches from the Northern Cape last week graduated from the SA Breweries sponsored Safa coaching instructors course which was conducted at the association’s High Performance centre in Pretoria. SAFA coaching instructors as well as SAB coaching course graduate, Thabo Senong facilitated the workshop
The four Northern Cape candidates, Ben Mbulelo Monakali (pictured) from Pixley Ka Seme, Jerome Mouton from Siyanda, Randy Foster from JTG and Sebastian Bezuidenhout from Namakwa District attended the week-long coaching level D-licence skills camp.
The course ran from Monday up until Friday last week, and there were 49 candidates in attendance from Safa’s 52 districts
A statement by the sponsors explained that “the skills camp was as a result of the SAB adopting a more holistic approach to football development. … The focus was no longer on players but included other relevant stakeholders such as match officials, administrators and coaches”.
SAB’s vice president of corporate affairs in the Africa zone, Doreen Kosi said: “the skills camp is underpinned by the need to bridge the gap of skills deficiency within the SAB League, which can only be achieved through educational programmes suited for all our SAB League role players.”
In line with the SAB League’s vision of a holistic football development, the proud sponsors of the country’s largest development league have also introduced study assistance bursaries for players, accredited courses for match officials, and training for football administrators.
Safa Frances Baard secretary Ponatshego Mondela explained that the Safa accredited courses were usually paid for out of pocket by the candidates who wished to attend them. However, where possible, the district or national association at times assisted aspirant coaches where necessary.
There was more good news for match officials who are keen to sharpen their skills with an announcement that a SAB Match Officials Skills Camp: Level 4 will take place from April 2-6 April at the University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre.
