Six caught for shopliftin­g syndicate

FIVE women and a man, believed to be part of a possible shopliftin­g syndicate, have been arrested after suspected stolen goods, estimated at R80 000, were found in their vehicle on the N12.

Police spokespers­on, Captain Sergio Kock, said that the Kimberley SAPS Detectives, together with Visible Policing, followed up on informatio­n regarding a possible shopliftin­g syndicate operating in Kimberley and the surroundin­g areas.

“The five females and one male were arrested on Tuesday around 5.30pm on the N12 north, just outside Kimberley.

“The suspects were travelling in a white Toyota Avanza, packed with suspected stolen goods including clothing, beauty products and perfumes. It is alleged the goods were stolen at shops in Kimberley and surroundin­g areas. The approximat­e value of the goods is R80 000.”

Kock said the police also confiscate­d the Toyota Avanza, which was being driven by the 59-year-old male. “All the suspects are from the Jan Kempdorp and Pampiersta­d areas.”

The five female suspects are between the ages of 28 and 60 and are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate­s’ Court soon.
