Dark clouds over Safa House

such as Safa, then something must be amiss with Safa’s protocols … or whatever.

So what is the problem? Let us play detective for a little while.

Sometime last year, August or so,Safa confirmed that it will have their elective congress on March 24 to choose a new leadership. The elections have now been effectivel­y shifted away from the initial September 2018 date.

The September date fell away because Safa was going to the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the national team. As things turned out the national team delivered a turd and was out of contention for that competitio­n and so necessitat­ed an early elective date for Safa.

Later, the expelled former national coach Shakes Mashaba emerges among a band of persons who say they are a forum that wants change at Safa House. This group says they will persuade those with a vote to choose somebody other than Jordaan at the congress.

Also, about that time, former Safa board member Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana entered the elections fray by announcing his availabili­ty to serve. Nonkonyana’s bid was shot down by Safa insiders who alleged he was unqualifie­d to serve football in any capacity. They claimed he had previously been charged with financial misconduct or some such matter; also, that he had litigated against the associatio­n and so on, which nullified his bid.

OK, next comes a former Premier Soccer League referee Ace Ngcobo who announced his readiness to serve Safa. The announceme­nt made national headlines. But later in the week the story took a strange twist when the very same media then reported that Ngcobo had challenged Safa about the constituti­onality of their protocols relating to the elective congress.
