KGC gears up for Masters

ON BOTH sides of the Atlantic the first full weekend in April 2018 heralds an annual Masters Golf Tournament.

Thirty-odd hours ahead of Augusta National Golf Course the KGC will be first to present their traditiona­l burgundy jacket along with prizes valued at R26 000 generously contribute­d by SportIn-Sight, who are the 2018 sponsors. The first prize includes a weekend at Kiara Lodge and 18 holes for two at the prestigiou­s Clarens Golf Estate. Second prize and onwards are renowned brands of sunglasses valued at R20 000.

A handicap seeded draw, the format is Medal Net over 36 holes on Saturday. All qualifiers are urged to enter as the field is limited to a total of 80 players.

Prior to Saturday’s action, it is the Darsha Insurance Brokers IPS today followed by tomorrow’s KWV Powerplay Niner. On Friday it is the Sun Flamingo Niner and the snowball draw, valued at R4 400.

Meanwhile, in this past week’s action Schalk Grobbelaar (Jnr) posted a net 64 for 44 individual points and a particular­ly comfortabl­e win in the Saturday morning IPS. Johan Oosthuizen was the runner-up on 40 points, Herbie Woodbridge third on 37 points.

Barend Burger produced the winning score in the afternoon field, 37 individual stableford points, Kariem Anderson the runner-up on 37 points.

Mashudu Tseisi and OJ Maimane posted 43 betterball stableford points and the better count-out to win the Friday Diamond and Dorings BBS.

Donald Whitebooi and Bernie Turton were the runners-up on the same score. Neil Langley and Brenton Marthinus were third on 42 points. LJ Thomane and Bennie Andrews were fourth on 41 points in a count-out from Andries Kori and Shane Arthur.

Peter Jansen returned 22 points to win the Sun Flamingo Niner on Friday afternoon. André Rose was the runner-up, just one point behind. Susan Alexander (20), Donald Hlakudi (16) and Ramon Barlow (16) were the remaining prizewinne­rs.

Two successive powerplays set the tone for Willie Uys to post a winning 24 points in the Thursday KWV Powerplay Niner. Dave Wilson was the runner-up on 23, with big sixes at the 2nd and the 4th.

Peter Jansen, a big six at the 14th, was third on 22 points in a three-way count-out. Outside of the winners Kevin Wakeford, Susan Alexander, Mali Manana, Nico Ross, Machiel Cronjé and Dave Benade each reported a powerplay big six for a ticket in the draw.

The ever-competitiv­e Nigel Page posted a winning 39 points in the Wednesday Sundowner Lodge IPS. Lennie Allen was the runner-up on 37 points, with Willie Delport third 36.
