YOU WANT to see the shoeshine and piano style of play at Mamelodi Sundowns in their remaining six Absa Premiership matches? Forget it.

All Pitso Mosimane wants are the three points in each game to clinch the championship.

“What are you going to do with good football?” asked the coach of log leaders Sundowns following their 2-0 win over Chippa United, a fixture that’s not had a positive outcome for the Brazilians in two years and had Mosimane cutting a frustrated figure for much of proceedings until goals from forwards Percy Tau and Khama Billiat in either half of that game proved enough to guarantee maximum points for the Chloorkop team.

“There are six games left at this stage of the season and you are telling me about good football?

“No, play good football at the beginning and show off.

But now it’s tough and not only for us, but everybody. You must take the three points and go home.”

The midweek win meant that Sundowns were able to hold on to first place and have one point more than secondplaced Orlando Pirates.

The Brazilians also still have a game in hand and face Baroka FC away from home on Sunday in that catch-up fixture.

“They are cocky, Baroka. They are free-spirited and they have players who are very difficult to manage,” Mosimane said of a side that has had a new man at the helm over the last several weeks in MacDonald Makhubedu following the suspension and eventual sacking of Kgoloko Thobejane for allegedly drinking on the team bus on the way back from a match.

“I am not sure whether there is a difference (since Makhubedu was appointed in the interim) because sometimes the smaller teams get excited when playing bigger teams.

“They go all over the place and try and win, but get clobbered,” the Sundowns coach said.

“This makes it difficult for us. It is deceiving when you look at the last time we played them (a 4-0 victory for Sundowns back in December). You will be mistaken, it won’t be that kind of a game.

“I think this time it is a game of 1-0 and if you get two you are good. I don’t know how they are going to play, but they are cocky, they come at you and are not a team that parks the bus.

“Probably it might suit us because we need to respect them a little bit and hold on and try to get goals like the one Khama scored against Chippa, or go more on combination play like the goal Percy scored. We have different ways and facets of playing.

“We will see.”

After Baroka, the Brazilians, who were scheduled to play eight games in 28 days this month, will have six days rest before hosting Golden Arrows and then reigning champions Bidvest Wits.

“We will finally be able to say we are a well rested team like others who play every 10 days or seven days. It’s easy, but play every Wednesday and win, then you will see.”
