NC district scoops awards
THE ZF Mgcawu District in the Northern Cape has scooped three awards at the 2018 National Education Excellence Awards.
The awards are aimed at complementing the National Teaching Awards and National School Nutrition Programme Awards and celebrate district excellence in areas focused on improving the quality of learning outcomes.
The 2018 Education Excellence Awards, which was held on the weekend, brought together different awards in the system and the consolidation of the awards saw the introduction of new categories of recognition.
The District Excellence Awards categories are: Overall Top Performing District, Top Performing District in NSC Examinations, Most Improved District, Top Performing Ordinary Public School (Quintile 1 to 5) and Top Performing LSEN (Learners with Special Educational Needs) School.
The ZF Mgcawu District office scooped three awards during this year’s national awards, being named the Best Performing District in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, as well as taking third position for the implementation of the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP), while Soverby Primary School was named the second best school for its outstanding implementation of the NSNP.
“It is evident that our programmes are yielding positive results in our schools and at our district offices. We will continue to pursue excellence in education to further improve the quality of education in all our schools across the Province,” Northern Cape Department of Education spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, said yesterday.
“We congratulate the ZF Mgcawu District office under the leadership of Gordon March, the dedicated staff and all schools for their commitment towards the future of many pupils. We are confident that other districts will follow suit and translate into an overall improvement in the academic performance across all grades.”
