- DAVE WILSON GOLF CORRESPONDENT

THE FINAL three days of the Mad Hatter Golf Festival at the Royal Port Alfred Golf Club had 20 current Kimberley members on the tees, with a dozen Kimberley old boys in full support.

Although annually well supported by the KGC, prizes have generally been in short supply. But 2018 was somewhat different in that on Thursday, Friday and Saturday KGC members made into the prize-giving; this included Nic Sonqishe, Dave Wilson and Donald Whitebooi.

At the recent Windhoek Pairs Regional Finals played in Bloemfontein the sponsors generously tacked on an individual stableford recognition. Congratulations to Barend Burger who qualified through this format to take part in the SA Finals of the Windhoek Lager Championships.

The venue Serengeti.

Success there will allow him to represent SA in the Finals in Namibia against 10 other African countries.

Pat Ansley and Johan Herselman posted an exceptional plus 14 to win the Saturday morning betterball Bonus Bogey. Pivot, Johan Herselman, was also the runner-up with Joanie Herselman on plus 11.

Top score in the afternoon, the same format, belonged to Nico Ross and Machiel Cronjé.

Outstanding scores were a feature of the Friday Sun Flamingo Niner, 20 points plus for the top eight players. Luchmen Poonawassy was first on 22 points in a count-out from Leon van Wyk. Five players returned 21 points, the prizewinners Parks Mashabao, Neil Langley and Peter Jansen.

Shane Arthur and Peter Jansen, each on 25 points, were first and second respectively in the Thursday KWV Powerplay Niner. Each player recorded two big sixes. Liam Abrahams, who also recorded a big six, was third on 24 points.

Outside of the prizewinners Willie Uys, Dave Benade, Lennie Allen, Ian Kidson and Mike Kidson (x2) all added big six for tickets in the draw.

Dries du Plessis (38), Siewert Wiid (37) and Peter Jansen (36) were the top three players in the Wednesday Sundowner Lodge IPS.
