UNDEFEATED GRIQUAS CONFIDENT AHEAD OF THIRD FIXTURE, BUT COACH KNOWS FREE STATE XV WILL NOT BE A WALKOVER

- DAVE ALEXANDER SPORTS REPORTER

THE TAFEL Lager Griquas, refreshed after a week off and still brimming with confidence after their 80-14 rout of the Leopards two weeks ago, would do well to be careful when they take on a dangerous Toyota Free State XV in their SuperSport Rugby Challenge fixture in Rustenburg on Sunday.

Griquas will be travelling to Rustenburg tomorrow and their game against Free State will be part of a bumper day of rugby at the Impala RFC Stadium on Sunday.

Free State last week systematically dismantled the Leopards at Shimla Park, beating their visitors 40-20; and it’s for this reason that Griquas will know that they have a fight on their hands come Sunday. The Central Division neighbours have the same number of points on the log, with both having played two matches; Griquas though, thanks to some strong performances, are leading on points difference with the Kimberley side sporting +83 and Free State on +45. practicing hard during the week and want to improve on their performances … they have practiced with high intensity and commitment.”

The coach added that a game against their neighbours was always a welcome challenge. “They (the Griqua team) also enjoy playing against the Free Staters and want to prove a point as they know it is going to be a tough match.”

Engledow also said that Sunday’s game would probably be a tighter affair with a lot depending on the performance of the forwards.

“This match is going to be more technical as our opposition have a powerful scrum, but we will be out to match them. Our line-out work has improved and we will be trying to retain as much ball as possible and make use of multiple phases.

“Our tactical kicking has also seen some improvement of late and we will be making good use of it,” the coach said.

The kick-off for Sunday’s match is at 1pm and the match will be screened live on SuperSport 1.
