‘Real’ winter eludes the Northern Cape

- MURRAY SWART STAFF REPORTER

WINTER continues to elude the Northern Cape as 2018 enters its sixth month.

Maximum temperatures in the mid to high teens and low twenties have been predicted across the Province for today and into the weekend.

This as a cold front that was expected to make landfall overnight, bringing strong winds and cool conditions, yesterday resulted in flood warnings for the Western Cape.

As this weather system moves inland, temperatures are likely to fall somewhat in parts of the Northern Cape, with rainy conditions and a maximum temperature of only 11 degrees Celsius expected for Calvinia this morning before climbing to an unseasonal 25 degrees C by Wednesday next week.

Kimberley residents can also expect a chilly start to the weekend with a minimum temperature of just above freezing forecast by AccuWeather for this morning.

However, sunny and warm conditions, with very little wind, are expected to persist and have been predicted for the rest of the day with the mercury expected to peak at a moderate high of 18 degrees C by this afternoon.

Pleasant conditions are then expected to persist for the Diamond City and across the rest of the Province tomorrow and on Sunday, with similar weather conditions forecast for the provincial capital throughout next week.

Colesberg, Upington and Warrenton are also expected to enjoy a sunny and mild weekend with maximum temperatures in the teens forecast for today, tomorrow and into next week.
