Van der Ross celebrates his first ever ace at weekend

THE SATURDAY Millennium Projects sponsored betterball stableford was split into morning and afternoon fields. Competitiv­e winning scores underlined the results of both fields.

Stephan Le Roux and Christo Swanepoel produced 47 points to win the morning prizegivin­g. PJ Gerber and Peter Jansen were the runners-up on a count-out from third placed Theuns Barnard and Frits van Dyk,both betterball­s on 45 points.

Cedric van der Ross and Ronnie Engelbrech­t posted 48 points to win the afternoon prizegivin­g, their score boosted the former who played the perfect shot on the par three 11th to record his first ever hole-inone. Hein and Christian Voight, the runners-up, returned 47 points. The final prize went to Kevin Collings and Bennie Claasen on 46 points.

The occasion also served as the first round for the 2018 Blacklaws Trophy, the Club betterball matchplay championsh­ips by handicap.

Three birdies

Deuce Leburu carded three birdies to make 23 points in the Sun Flamingo Niner on Friday. Reagan Woodbridge, just one off the mark, was the runner-up on 22 points.

Parks Mashabao was third alone on 21 points. Ronnie Engelbrech­t was fourth in a count-out from the final prize-winner Peter Jansen, both players on 20 points.

Willie Uys equaled the KWV Niner record on Thursday with a total 28 points. He carded two six pointers. Nico Ross, the runner-up on 27 points, recorded an eight pointer and a six pointer. Herbie Woodbridge, who recorded an eight pointer on the final hole, was third on 26 points.

Not in the prizes, but, Dave Benade recorded an eight pointer as well as a six pointer. Big sixes were also returned by OJ Maimane, Tenderson Manyetsa, Donald Hlakudi, Gladys Poonawassa­y, Bennie Andrews, Machiel Cronjé, Ant Crozier and Wedge Crozier.

Three players returned 40 individual stableford points in Wednesday’s Darsha Insurance Brokers sponsored monthly competitio­n. The ensuing count-out placed Gerhard Buys first, Gavin van Zyl second and Siewert Wiid third.

The coming week Tomorrow it is the Konica Minolta Business LeagueJune outing, followed on Thursday with the KWV Powerplay Niner.

On Friday there is both the Sun Flamingo Niner and the snowball draw, while on Saturday it is the ICS Furniture sponsored competitio­n.
