IN THE NEWS Slow progress on road construction
THE ANC and the Department of Roads and Public Works have agreed to request the Office of the Public Protector to investigate slow progress on the construction of road infrastructure in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district and in particularly the Joe Morolong municipal region, where state funds as well as money that was donated by Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC) were spent.
ANC provincial secretary Deshi Ngxanga said that the party leadership met with all mayors in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district as well as the department.
“The meeting was held to address the slow progress that has been made in so far as the construction of the road infrastructure, particularly in the Joe Morolong municipal area.
“We are of the view that there is much that still needs to be done to ensure that these roads are complete. It was noted that this has resulted in the failure to fully roll out the pupil transport programme in the Joe Morolong municipal area.”
Ngxanga added that all parties involved had resolved to engage with Sishen Iron Ore Company and the Office of the Public Protector in order to ensure the full implementation of the agreement by SIOC to fund part of the road construction.
“The executive mayor of the John Taolo Gaetsewe district and all local mayors were mandated to engage with the road forum as well as the affected communities.
“The ANC will closely monitor the full implementation of the above in the interest of our people.”
