AN ART exhibition showcasing works created by youth artists from Postmasburg will open on the weekend.
The exhibition will be presented by Visual Art Cherry
(VAC), an NPO that provides an artistic skills development initiative for youth, children in need, children at risk and in conflict with the law as a part of a holistic rehabilitation process.
The programme also provides beneficiaries with skills that enable them to make a decent living upon leaving correctional facilities.
Kolomela Mine partnered with Visual Art Cherry to deliver a visual and performing art programme to artists and youth residing in the Tsantsabane Local Municipality.
The programme is part of skills development and also promotes arts and culture in various communities in South Africa.
The aim of the programme is to give youth a variety of options in the labour market and SMME environment.
The programme is a multi-layered project. The final products created in the project will be exposed, showcased and marketed at the exhibition launch, and will include paintings, photographs, mosaics and fashion pieces, and the exhibition will also incorporate performance art. Works will be on sale to members of the public.
“We work to empower the participants with a sense of the creative potential of the arts and technical skills are taught and emphasised. The main impetus is to allow for the safe, effective and meaningful communication of life experiences through visual, performing language and the building of connections to the larger community. The exhibition aims to showcase art works created by the youth and artist educators from Tsantsabane during the series of art workshops presented,” said Gotlhe Moses, from Visual Art Cherry, yesterday.
The exhibition will take place today at the PMG Show Ground in Postmasburg, starting from 10am.
