Henderson in court on fraud charges

WELL-known city resident Ross Henderson appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud and contravening the Value Added Tax (VAT) and Income Tax acts.

Henderson on Friday appeared on charges relating to fraud, with the State alleging that he “unlawfully, falsely and with the intent to defraud, misrepresented to the South African Revenue Service (Sars) that he did not receive any income during the assessment year for tax income for 2009, whereas he allegedly received an income of R2 268 659.68 as payment for services rendered, that was supposed to be taxed”.

In relation to the incident, Henderson is charged with contravening the Income Tax Act by allegedly failing to declare income tax and submit income tax returns for the 2009 tax year.

In another fraud charge, the State alleges that during September 2008 Henderson intended to defraud Graven Mining and Monstermob/Frederick Coenrad Nel by pretending that he was registered with Sars for VAT purposes and that he was allowed to levy for VAT and receive monies for VAT purposes, submitting two invoices to be paid, which included VAT equating to more than R26 000, whereas he was allegedly not registered with Sars to add a levy for VAT.

Henderson is also charged with contravening the VAT Act by submitting VAT invoices not complying with the act, with regards to the two invoices involved.

Henderson’s case was on Friday postponed to July 20 for a trial date to be determined.
