MEC follows up on commitments
THE NORTHERN Cape MEC for Health, Fufe Makatong, has concluded a two-week induction and reorientation drive to capacitate health governance structures across the Province.
This follows recent commitments made during the department’s budget speech to induct and reorientate all appointed health governance structures in the Province before the end of the first quarter of the current financial year.
“The MEC further unpacked the new health turnaround strategic plan informed by priority needs of all health care facilities favouring communities as expressed by the health governance structures,” explained department spokesperson Lebogang Majaha.
“She also mandated governance structures representing 133 primary health care facilities, 11 hospitals and 33 community health care centres to immediately embark on the educational drive to communities for them to understand the department’s goals and objectives, especially new national imperatives such as the ideal clinic initiative as part of the key elements of Operation Phakisa towards the envisaged National Health Insurance.”
Majaha added that government had applied a multisectoral approach to the establishment of hospital boards and clinic committees to ensure that these bodies represent the communities that they serve.
“All members appointed to serve on the boards and committees come from community structures, organised sectors, NGOs and churches and represented all of our diverse communities in the areas.”
