ACCIDENT BRIEFS

-

KIMBERLEY A city family suffered minor injuries when a police Inyala slammed into their vehicle on Saturday afternoon.

The incident followed after several police vehicles were seen speeding down Phakamile Mabija Road. The last three vehicles were seen going through a red traffic light and the Inyala crashed into a sedan.

The uninjured driver of the sedan jumped out of the car to try and help his wife out of the vehicle but realised that the passenger side door was jammed shut.

Emergency workers were called and firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free the woman, who was then transported to hospital with her two children who were also injured in the crash.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba, said that the injured mother and children were later discharged from hospital.

“An accident was reported after a police Inyala was involved in an accident with a sedan on the corner of Phakamile Mabija and Queen streets. The accident occurred at about 12.45pm on Saturday afternoon. A woman and her husband and their two children were inside the sedan at the time of the incident. The woman and the children sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment. The man did not sustain any injuries. Those injured were later released from hospital. The police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving,” said Ramatseba.

PROVINCE Three people were lucky to escape unharmed after a bakkie crashed into a truck carriage on the N12 to Cape Town on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred after a truck had driven into the back of another truck. The cab of the one truck fell over while the carriage veered to the other side of the road, where the bakkie drove into it.

The occupants of the bakkie suffered minor injuries and were taken for medical treatment.

Traffic piled up and motorists waited patiently for the road to be cleared of the wreckage, while the smell of diesel filled the air.

Ramatseba confirmed the incident. “Two trucks and a bakkie were involved in a collision on the N12. No one was seriously injured. Police investigations into the matter continue,” Ramatseba said.
