Action sports to ‘invade’ city

- NORMA WILDENBOER STAFF REPORTER

SOME of South Africa’s best BMX, freestyle motocross and skateboarding stars are set to “invade” Galeshewe later this month as the “New Generation Invasion Spin Show and Ramp Rodeo” makes its way to the city.

Action Sports Africa and The Hive Entertainment are set to bring the first collaborative extreme sports extravaganza to the Northern Cape.

The event organisers said yesterday that the inclusion of skateboarding and freestyle BMX in the Olympics signalled “a significant set of opportunities for athletes, events and brands in the African market”.

“Action Sports Africa is the leading investment and development platform for action sports on the continent and has partnered with The Hive Entertainment to deliver a taste of the Olympic opportunity to the Northern Cape.

“The team, led by Clynton Clarke of The Hive, has partnered with local spinning club – Team Passion – to stage a motorsport and action sports blow-out on July 28 at the Galeshewe Arena (Ramp Rodeo),” Clynton Clarke said yesterday.

He added that fans could expect some of the country’s best spinners, FMX stars, BMXers and skateboarders at the event.

“The trail biking spectacle of the Leriche brothers will also be showing off their skills by jumping obstacles and entertaining the crowds. Kimberley has never before seen an event with this mix of entertainment and adrenaline. A full DJ line-up will be playing throughout the day, there will be action sports clinics and a chance to witness some of the biggest jumps on the continent. Expect backflips, boardslides and whole lot of burnt rubber,” Clarke added.

Gates open at 10am and the event runs until approximately 7pm. The entrance fee is R100 per person.
