- BENIDA PHILLIPS STAFF REPORTER

IN CELEBRATION of Women’s Month, the city’s women in blue encouraged fellow colleagues to “take their space” in society and the workplace.

Women from different departments in the police service congregated at the conference centre at the Kimberley police station yesterday.

“The day was packed with valuable presentations regarding employee health and wellness, human resource development, finance, women in the operational environment and also in criminal record centres linked to crime scene management,” said police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock.

“The attendees were encouraged to join the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units, where there is a need for women with a passion for children and for solving incidents where families are involved,” said Kock.

The women attending were also briefed about gender-based violence and sexual offences by Lieutenant-Colonel Nadia Kika, while Lieutenant-Colonel Odette Raynard shared information about sexual harassment in the workplace.

A motivational talk was given by Major-General Jenny Fourie about empowering yourself, staying positive and #PressForProgress.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Peter Shivuri, also spoke to the women present about their importance in the workplace.

“Look after yourself and each other and by all means advance in life,” was Shivuri’s message.

Major-General Koliswa Otola shared some of her life experiences and closed off the event with the vote of thanks.
