City residents warned to brace for chilly weekend

IT’S GOING to be another chilly few days for Kimberley and parts of the Northern Cape, with snow expected in the high-lying areas.

According to the South African Weather Service website: “An intense cut off low is expected to affect parts of the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape over the next few days. The public and small stock farmers are advised that very cold conditions and snowfalls on the high ground are expected.”

Snow Report SA said that by today quite a few isolated snowfalls across a few regions could be expected, including the Sutherland area in the Northern Cape.

Potentially heavier falls are expected tomorrow in the southern high ground of the Northern Cape, including near Calvinia, Sutherland and even as far north as Springbok.

In Kimberley a cold weekend is predicted, with a low of 1 degrees Celsius for today, with a high of 17 degrees C. Tomorrow the thermometer is expected to drop to 0 degrees C, with a high of only 15 degrees C, and on Sunday below freezing temperatures are expected in the early morning, although it will warm up to 18 degrees C.

On Monday it will be slightly warmer with a minimum of 1 degrees C and a maximum of 22 degrees C.

According to Snow Report SA the cold front made landfall in the Western Cape on Wednesday.

“We suspect that there is already light snow across most of the high peaks in the Cedarberg and the HexRiver Mountains this morning. Going forward for today, we are expecting light snowfalls to continue over the high peaks of the Cedarberg and Hex River Mountains, with some slightly heavier falls possible further south on the mountains around Wellington,” one report read.
