SAPS, Chinese Policing Forum visit needy NC communities
AS PART of belated Mandela Day celebrations, Northern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Risimati Shivuri, along with other senior officers of the provincial SAPS, joined a delegation from the Chinese Policing Forum (CPF) on a visit to several underprivileged communities in the ZF Mgcawu District.
The police delegation was accompanied by the Director General of the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town, Wang Yihan, the Consulate of the Chinese Police, Yu Yuan, and Ming Lu of the Chinese community in Upington to hand out 200 food parcels to needy households in the area on Friday.
“The Chinese community decided to give back to the local community because they are the people who support their businesses in these areas,” explained SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Mashay Gamieldien.
“The delegation started their Mandela Day celebrations with a visit to the Sahara Strauss Clinic in Rosedale, where the operations manager of the facility took them on a guided tour through the clinic. Food hampers were handed over to TB patients,” Gamieldien said.
“They then proceeded to the Piet Thole Community Hall in Rosedale where identified needy families and community members converged to receive their food hampers and clothing parcels from the delegation.
“The same programme was also hosted at the Louisvale Community Hall”.
In her address, Yihan stated that the celebration marked both the 100th birthday of Mandela and the 28th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between South Africa and the People’s Republic of China.
Shivuri added that people from different backgrounds needed to come together to make a difference in the lives of people.
“The SAPS is there to look after the safety of our people and we must share ideas with other communities living in South Africa so that we can ensure the safety and security of all those living in our country.”
