City hospital celebrates first anniversary

-

LENMED’S Royal Hospital and Heart Centre in Kimberley recently celebrated its first anniversary in the city.

Prakash Devchand, chairman of the Lenmed Group, said at the event that the Lenmed story was deeply rooted in the historical landscape of southern Africa.

“The hospital group’s story began during South Africa’s troubled times of apartheid, in 1984, when the first Lenmed Clinic opened its doors in Lenasia. This was unheard of at a time when a large sector of South African society was being deprived of decent medical care. Lenmed Clinic in Lenasia would eventually become the group’s flagship facility, Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital, which stands proudly today as a testament to Lenmed’s excellence in clinical care.

“Our our newest contributor to our firsts – Royal Hospital and Heart Centre performed the first open heart surgery, opened the first cardiac catheterization laboratory, cardiac theatre and radiation oncology unit in the Province.”

Devchand stated that in the past year, the Royal Hospital and Heart Centre had impacted the lives of over 5 000 people admitted to the hospital, assisted over 7 000 patients in the accident and emergency unit and welcomed almost 300 new lives into the world.

Devchand thanked the staff for helping the hospital impact over 14 000 lives over the past year.
