No water shortage says Sol

-

WHILE nightly water shutdowns will continue in the city, the Sol Plaatje Municipality has allayed fears of a water shortage.

Municipal spokesperson, Thoko Riet, said yesterday that the levels at the Newton Reservoir were sitting at 80% full capacity.

“We are monitoring the consumption throughout the day and the decision to isolate or partially shut down our water reticulation network largely depends on daily consumption patterns. The nightly shutdowns will continue until we have reached comfortable storage levels.”

Riet said that high water consumption due to warm weather conditions was the primary cause of this challenge.

“We are pumping normally and there are no problems in our bulk system, the only test is that our consumption has increased significantly.”

Following reports of no water or low water pressure in some suburbs, including Cassandra and De Beers, Riet described these as an isolated problem.

“The matter was not brought to our attention, and, according to our knowledge, our system is fully pressurised and operating normally. There would be instances where major bursts are experienced and, under such conditions, pressure loss can be experienced in the network. Other than that, Cassandra and De Beers are operating as normal.”
