PROVINCE The Northern Cape Department of Correctional Services has disputed a report by the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (Jics) tabled in Parliament recently, that indicated that the Province had four suicides among inmates at prisons during 2017/18. Northern Cape Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Puleng Mokhoane, said that the department was “concerned about this misleading statistic” (reported by Jics) and said that according to their own records, “there had not been an unnatural death of an offender at any correctional centres in the Northern Cape during 2016/17 and 2017/18”.
