Pinks give Blues the blues Women’s section at KGC

GERHARD Roux posted the top score in Saturday’s Club IPS, 42 individual stableford points, leaving in his wake Clive Korope, Jacquie Beukes, Keith Brown and John Lankester who were the remaining prizewinners.

The Saturday afternoon field was dominated by the eagerly anticipated biannual challenge in which the Ladies Section play the NCSSG, the format betterball matchplay. Each team fielded a record 20 players. As the returning coveys rolled in there was no confusion as to the results. From start to finish the players in pink wore the ready smiles of success, while the opposition in blue were, well, moody.

Ronnie Engelbrecht returned an unmatched 21 points for an outright win in the Friday Sun Flamingo Niner. Four players returned 19 points. The count-out deemed Bernie Bennett, Eddie Barkhuizen, Ramon Barlow and Andries Kori second to fifth respectively.

A six pointer on the 13th, quickly followed by an eight pointer on the 15th, gave Tenderson Manyetsa the impetus to post a winning 27 points in the Thursday KWV Powerplay Niner. Machiel Cronjé was the runner-up on 24 points, a six pointer on the 3rd. Luchmen Poonawassy was third on 19 points with a six pointer on the 15th.

THE COMING WEEK

On Wednesday it is the final round of the 2018 Konica Minolta Business League. In the individual section the top three players include Gavin Schafer (278), Mike Doherty (270) and Lennie Allen (268). In the team section the top four teams include PA Walter (297), Burger Brokers 1 (296), Five Acres (289) and Pro Liquor (287).

On Thursday it is the KWV Powerplay Niner, followed on Friday with the NG Kerk Diamantveld Golf fund-raiser. Substantial meat prizes are the added attraction to the tournament. KGC players are welcome to enter, the cost is R1200 per fourball.

On Saturday there is a club competition.
