Early Christmas for NC town

- NORMA WILDENBOER STAFF REPORTER

CHRISTMAS arrived early in Loeriesfontein this year as the Loeriesfontein Wind Farm and Khobab Wind Farm celebrated a year of operations, while also marking Universal Children’s Day.

The two wind farms celebrated with more than 400 children from two ECD centres (Loerievinkie and Skilpaaitjielaan Dagsorg) and Loeriesfontein Primary School.

“These events celebrate the importance of promoting and safeguarding the rights of a child, while recognising children as active participants in their own lives and communities and as active citizens who can meaningfully contribute to their own decision making,” Vanessa Fredericks, economic development manager for Loeriesfontein Wind Farm and Khobab Wind Farm, said yesterday.

The children’s Christmas party included various activities such as face painting, a play-dough station, a larger-than-life game of rock-paperscissors, popcorn machines, bubble machines and jumping castles.

“The day ended off on a high note with Santa Claus handing out Christmas gifts to each child from the two ECD centres and from Loeriesfontein Primary School,” Fredericks said.

The festivities continued with a disco party on Saturday night for the high school pupils at Loeriesfontein High School. Loeriesfontein’s very own DJ Lorenzo kept the crowd entertained and dancing.
