Man found dead in Herlear in apparent suicide
A SIXTY-year-old man from Kimberley has died after apparently committing suicide by shooting himself in the head at his home in Herlear.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Atlas Street.
The man, a recent pensioner, was apparently found dead by his wife in the yard of the house, when she arrived home.
The man had shot himself in the head and was declared dead on the scene.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Dimakatso Mooi, yesterday confirmed that an inquest had been opened following the incident.
She added that the circumstances which led to the shooting were not yet clear and that police investigations were continuing.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident yesterday, an 18-year-old man died in Kimberley after being hit by a train.
The man was discovered on the train tracks behind Impala Flats in Beaconsfield early yesterday morning by a resident who alerted authorities.
Emergency services transported the man to the Robert Sobukwe Hospital but he died on the way there.
Mooi said that an inquest docket was opened following the incident.
She added that the victim’s details could not yet be released and that police investigations were continuing.
